The recognition comes as the company moves into commercial deployment across some of the world’s hardest-to-abate industries.
Global carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) deployment will need to scale rapidly over the coming decade to reduce emissions, particularly across heavy industry, which is responsible for roughly two-thirds of annual global greenhouse gas emissions. That scale-up depends on technologies that can reduce costs and perform reliably in real industrial environments. Mantel is focused on that challenge with its high-temperature molten borate carbon capture system, designed to integrate directly into existing industrial processes while recovering waste heat as usable steam.
The company is currently deploying across a range of industries, including power generation, oil & gas, manufacturing, among others, through projects that are expected to scale to millions of tonnes annually. Mantel was recently selected as the carbon capture technology partner for the proposed TerraSpark Energy Campus in West Virginia, a U.S. Department of Energy-supported project that will integrate Mantel’s technology into a large-scale coal-fired power plant.
Building on that momentum, Mantel is progressing several key commercial milestones. Mantel recently announced a front-end engineering and design (FEED) study for a commercial-scale project with one of Canada’s largest oil and gas producers, integrating its molten borate system into a steam-assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) operation to capture 60,000 tonnes of CO₂ per year. This year, Mantel will also begin capturing 2,000 tonnes of CO₂ per year at Kruger’s Wayagamack Mill in Quebec, representing Mantel’s first operating deployment inside a commercial industrial facility. As its project pipeline expands, Mantel has also partnered with Wood to help deliver projects at industrial scale.

Mantel’s molten borate system is designed to address long-standing challenges facing carbon capture approaches, which have historically struggled with high energy penalties and costs. By operating at the high temperatures already present in industrial facilities, the system captures CO₂ while continuously recovering thermal energy, improving overall process efficiency.
The system has demonstrated up to 97% lower energy losses compared to conventional carbon capture technologies, produces CO₂ streams of more than 99.9% purity, and is targeting capture costs below $50 per tonne at scale. Over the past twelve months, demand for Mantel’s technology has continued to accelerate, with a strong pipeline of projects spanning both existing and prospective industrial partners. Support from strategic investors including Shell Ventures, bp Ventures, and Eni Next underscores growing industry confidence in Mantel’s role in advancing large-scale industrial decarbonization.
